DARLING
Code: HN5648

      Originally released in 1913

Charles Vyse’s sculpture, Darling, is the icon of the launch collection of 1913. Vyse studied under Charles Noke in the 1890’s before moving to London where he became a very successful studio potter. This enchanting study of a young child dressed for bed was christened by Queen Mary during her visit to the Royal Doulton factory in April 1913. When she saw this figure, then known as ‘Bedtime’, she cried ‘Oh! Isn’t he a Darling’, and it was immediately re-named in her honour, becoming HN1.

At 9.5cm in height the new commemorative Darling conveys all the charm and innocence of Vyse’s larger model - from the sweet expression on the child’s face to the hand gently placed below the chin. And, just like the original figurine, it is subtly decorated in pale blue.

Height : 9.5cm
